A Rainbow & Clouds 1st Birthday Party with Loads of DIY ideas

Bliss Giane's Rainbow Party

A week ago, Neo and I threw a Rainbow and Clouds 1st birthday party for our daughter, Bliss Giane. The pre-arranged theme at Raintree Hotel, Deira, Dubai provided us an easy way to create a memorable experience for this event and we chose menus tailored to our preferences.

We hosted a colourful party for her complete with a cotton candy cart, popcorn bar, adorable signs, personalized labels and stickers, rainbow cake and fun food inspired by the ideas we had seen on blogs, Pinterest and around the web. For some goofy giggles, a party clown was hired by Giane's Ninong Rjay and Ninang Tine Cuevas, Ninangs Ivy, Karyll and Lala.

The best parts? We did it all on a budget and it was a perfect bonding time for me and Neo.

And I am so blessed and proud to have a husband who is so creative and artistic. He did all the designs and came up with bright, attractive and unique concepts.

Check out our cool and clever DIY ideas:

Invites
Every great party needs to start with an attractive invitation. Neo created two adorable invitations: a still image and a video invite - watch it here.

Birthday Dress
As a mother, I wanted Giane to look the best on this special occasion. I considered the style, fashion, and design as important elements, however, the big factor is for her to feel comfortable in the dress so that she can enjoy the party without any discomfort. We selected cotton fabric so not to harm her sensitive skin. Huge thanks to Tita Nette Jover for creating this beautiful rainbow dress and headband.

Entrance Easel Poster
This entrance poster was a gift from Abdul, my officemate. We use one of her photos during her pre-birthday shoot with Tomato Potato Creatives.

The Sweets Table
Our sweets buffet is bursting with colours and flavours. The kids (and adults too!) couldn’t wait to get their hands on the treats!
Colourful Sweets Table
The personalized labels and some candies & goodies are gifts from Giane's Ninang, Loren Abarientos. While Neo and I picked some colourful chocolates from the local store.

Chocolate Bar Wrapper
This occasion became sweeter with our personalized chocolate bar wrappers, this turned an ordinary chocolate bar into a creative party favour.

Rainbow Cake
We love displaying our 3-tier (all edible), 7-colour rainbow chiffon cake in the center of our sweets buffet, baked and decorated by my dear friends, Shayne Villas and Christine Cuevas of Pan De Malditas. This cake is a gift from my cousins and Giane's Tita Ninangs: Shiela and Peachy.

Cupcakes and Pastillas Pops
The other favorites were the cupcakes and pastillas pops, which also ran out too fast! The most gorgeous rainbow cupcakes with cream-cheese frosting still by Pan de Malditas. They were beautiful, tasted so good and were a huge hit!
Thank you, Loren Abarientos for the cupcakes labels.

Bottled Water and Orange Juice Labels
Have water and orange juice ever looked cuter? To keep our guests hydrated while having fun, we made the bottled water and juice labels go with the theme of the party.

Cotton Candy and Popcorn Stations
These are blockbusters! The guests snacked on the cotton candy and popcorn. Sponsored by Giane's Ninong Eboy and Ninang Che David. Manned by Eboy himself. Signages and popcorn bucket labels were designed and done by Neo.

Bahaghari Sari-Sari store
Our Bahaghari Sari-Sari store was filled with Filipino chichirya and candies which we received as pasalubong from our relatives and friends from the Philippines. Look closer and I’m sure you’ll see several items you miss eating as a kid! Proceeds went to charity.

To those who filled our Sari-Sari Store, which was a feast for our eyes and mouth, with Pinoy food merchandise: Peachy Tadeo, Shiela Ido, Ate Vangie Gabasa, Kuya Nomer Mame, Ate Emy De Mesa, Ate Lorena and Nica Estrellado, Ate Dahlia Retreta, Ate Lydia Estrellado, Faith Enas, Olivia Sariolod, Eliz Reyes, Eva Pascasio... Thank You! May the Lord continue to bless your generous heart.
This store was conceptualized by Neo. Thank you to my Tatay Mel for the white wood frames and for Kuya Larry, Kuya Roy and Billy for building this 'store' few hours before the party.

Photo booth layout
Neo and I thought of a simple, colourful and not-so-common layout. So we came up with this! Thank you, Kuya Christopher Nuestro of Twinbooth Photobooth for running the booth on Giane's party. Our guests were able to take away great memories. Here are the photos which I posted on my Facebook account.

Tumbler Give Away
Guests were able to take away bright-coloured tumblers. These DIY favors added a pop of color to the setting and guests were thrilled to use them. My dearest friend and Giane's Ninang, Cheche Espinosa, bought these tumblers from Divisoria, Philippines. While Neo did the branding.

Thank You Cards
Nothing shows your appreciation quite like a personalized Thank You card. However, you don’t need to be an expert-level crafter to make your own homemade cards.
Thank you for Making My Party so COLOURFUL

Polaroid Guestbook
Snap it! Shake it! Stick it! Sign it! Instead of just signing a guestbook, our guests snapped a photo of themselves using a Polaroid camera and then placed their photos inside a small white book which we bought from Daiso. They even scribbled in a message or put their signature along with the photo. This album is a great memory for Giane.

Table Centerpiece
We decorated each table with transparent balloon wands which we manually filled with colourful confetti. We also displayed Giane’s photos from her photo shoot using a white picture frame.

Milestone
On the other side of the picture frame is a record of Giane’s first milestones which is also a part of the centerpieces.

Name Tags for Kids
We made some name tags so the little ones will have no trouble remembering everyone’s name that they’ve just met!

Spoons and Forks for the kids
Disposable spoons and forks got a vibrant makeover with the help of coloured tissue papers we bought from Dragon Mart. Thanks to Chat, Giane's Ninang for helping us in wrapping them.
We also added some colourful paper plates and glasses.

Party Decoration
The rainbow and clouds balloon decorations, including the entrance arch and standees, were carefully made by Che, Shao and Yanie. These are made out of love!!!

We also express our gratitude and appreciation to our family and friends who were so generous with their time and energy in helping us before and after the party. You are in our prayers!

Anyone can easily create this colourful party theme at home with a few craft and party supplies along with your DIY ideas that would work perfectly for either a spunky little boy or a sweet little girl!

It really felt like I had another friend there with us throughout the party. We can't recommend Bro Jecho and Sis Glen Joven highly enough; going above and beyond, they are the men you need behind the lens. They are truly passionate about what they do and that comes through in the quality of their work. Pictures were delivered to us 2 days after the party, which was great! Well worth the investment!
